Yeah that’s a known problem with less treated food.
For this kind of food (nuts, rice, granola, etc…) a good way to avoid the “packet bursting with life” situation is to keep it a few days in the freezer as soon as you get it.
And also keep it in a sealed container like a glass jar. That way bugs don’t find a way IN through the crack in the packaging.
I have to do both freezer and container with my flour otherwise I get bonus weevil protein in my cakes.
