A 100-year-old German company has reportedly filed for insolvency after a ransomware attack. An employee who arrived at the company in the morning even found extortion notes on the printers.

Fasana, which makes paper table napkins and employs around 240 people, was hit by hackers last month.

You know who we need to put out of business? Ransomware gangs.

    @gcluley@mastodon.green While I agree with your last sentence, the insolvency was only catalyzed by the ransomware attack, but the issues were present well before. The guy in the white shirt is the trustee in bankruptcy and he says around 00:54 that miscalculation (prices weren’t increased enough to cover increased cost) was a major factor.

    This is also a repeating pattern: Already struggling companies are pushed over the edge by an attack.
