For anyone wondering, Arwen sometimes lived in Lothlórien. They didn’t meet until Aragorn was 20-something, so it wasn’t quite that bad.

Well… the elves were the first awake sentient beings in middle earth. Before Illuvatar confronted Aulë about the dwarves they were essentially just bodies without proper minds, they couldn’t do anything without him controlling them. I would argue that they weren’t sentient. When Illuvatar granted Aulë’s wish to grant them the secret fire he also put them to sleep, because elves were supposed to be the first-born and first non-ainur in the world.
Who was actually the first sentient race could be argued either way to me, since the dwarves were techically there first in body but weren’t awakened to actually act as sentient creatures until after the elves had roamed the world for a bit.
All this is from memory, so apologies for any errors.

In the books Faramir took a quick look at the ring and went “I’m not touching that thing with a 10 foot pole” iirc

Tldr: it’s greenhouse gases. Surprise.

But he knows approximately what it does and has like 50 years of experience of hunting the enemy and a whole ass education in the history of the world etc.
It’s almost as if we humans have a span of temperatures that is comfortable to live in, and if the temperature goes beyond that – above or below – people aren’t happy.
The fact that things might get worse in the other direction later doesn’t mean they aren’t bad right now.
