It’s nice to see more reasonable people abandoning Twitter.
I quit in October 2022 after the incident where Elon Musk showed up at Twitter’s offices with a kitchen sink and just carried it around being a douchebag. That was pretty indicative of where the platform was headed.
That’s probably the global feed, which yes, moves super-fast. I found that annoying at first too.
There’s a checkbox to turn off auto-scroll in settings, and it’s got an appropriate name: Slow Mode.
Its’ pretty great.
As with the time I joined Mastodon, it takes a couple of weeks to find what you like and build up a good feed, but once you do that, it’s useful and fun. I wish it had more curation tools, but I enjoy it.
I thought that my first couple of days, but TBH, I actually really like that Fedi social media is completely self-directed. Not having the Jack Dorseys, Donald Trumps, and Zuckerbergs of the world vomiting content or stupid ads onto my feed is well worth the modicum of extra effort.
I found half of the people I’m following just by posting a picture of my dog and tagging it #CuteAnimals, and that got a nice response. I do follow a few hashtags and found follows there, but I will probably take them off once I’m up to 30-40 follows and I like my feed.
My feed on Pixelfed is way better the second week, now that I’ve followed a couple dozen folks and put some posts out there.
And pro tip: Post and tag a cute picture of your pet and people will see your account.
The only people who say this shit are people who saw a thirty-second segment on Fox News. Star Trek and Star Wars have been woke for as long as they’ve existed, and that’s partly why they’re so fantastic.
Further, Daniel needs to read up on Zuck’s history. He’s been a motherfucker since he was a kid.
