  • Me again. Last time tonight, I promise.

My favorite features so far, making the edit toolbar disappear in source mode and Focus mode. Quick access is also really useful.

One more thing I don’t like, it was adding a header to my edited notes.

    Example:

    ---
    id: "9242199e-992b-4c58-9b4f-85a6949d424d"
    title: "Books"
    tags: []
    pinned: false

This doesn’t look great in MacOS preview. This might be one of those things that it was simplest to just add this directly to the file rather than creating some kind of database or a bunch of dot files. Again, not a deal breaker for me. Would adding it to the bottom be possible instead?

    Thank you.

  • Hi OP. I am really enjoying using HelixNotes.

I love the way it looks and all the features. I was able to use the same folder I use MarkFlowy and Marknote.

My only critique is the Ctrl key in Windows and Linux menu shortcuts is usually changed to Cmd for Mac. It really isn’t a big deal but I think a lot of Mac users will notice this instantly. I tried creating an note with Cmd + N since is the default for all other Mac apps. I saw the Shortcuts in the Info section and I was hoping you could customize the Keyboard Shortcuts, but you can’t.

It isn’t a big deal with me. So far I am enjoying this more than MarkFlowy and Marknote. If you don’t change for whatever reason, I understand and I will continue to use your HelixNotes.

Again thank you for your work.

  • Yeah I understand.

People, like me, don’t use these Microsoft files anymore but I understand I would be incredibly frustrated if one, that I need to open, lands on my lap and I can’t open it.

It’s just that I wonder how much code is used to even read these shitty files properly. I wonder how many human programming hours is used to deal with them that can be used to progress LibreOffice in some other way? I wonder how many times a LibreOffice programmer is yelling at their screen “WHY THE FUCK DID YOU GO TO A NEW LINE?!”

  • Always look in the README.md file first for instructions for downloading and installing.

    Prerequisites

Bridge requires a full Firefox build environment:

    • Linux: GCC/Clang 13+, Python 3.8+, Node.js 16+, Rust 1.70+
    • Windows: Visual Studio 2022, Python 3.8+, Node.js 16+, Rust 1.70+
    • macOS: Xcode 14+, Python 3.8+, Node.js 16+, Rust 1.70+

So there is no Android version.

If you do want to install for one of OSes mentioned, the next section gives instructions on how to build by source. This means you have to follow in instructions. This might mean it is too technical for users not used to CLI (command line interface).

  • It steals content from creators while being worse for the environment at the same time. Not the same thing, it is worse.

I worked in education in computer science and basic usage in nearly every age group. When you realize how bad people are at using search engines, you can see why people think they accomplished something using AI. It’s like giving a child a calculator saying he can do math now.

Creating search prompts itself is a skill. You wouldn’t think so until trying to teach some one logic through search prompts. It is hell, literally my hell. Some people just don’t get it like 0 percent.

Differentiating what is a good source and what is a bad source is an even harder skill. People will believe what they want to believe. Google search adapts to the bias of individuals because it keeps people searching. This is why, even though it isn’t perfect, engines like duckduckgo are important.
