I’m just going to say it: 50% of foss projects wouldn’t exist if their devs could afford therapy

James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish2065·5 days agoidk I find $2/month to be very reasonable. I don’t feel squeezed.
EDIT: Just to be clear there is no amount of condescending replies form trilby wearing neckbeard keyboard warriors that will change my opinion.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish538·6 days agoI know it’s fashionable to shit on Plex here, but OP either has his server misconfigured or is just trying to stir the pot:

Free to Use: Video (movies & TV) streaming of personal content on the same local network as the Plex Media Server

Wow, 7tb for $21/month. That’s much better than I’ve been seeing.
Problem with that is there is no backup in case of flood/fire/tornado etc.
Yeah it sucks because Microsoft charges $10/mo for 6tb.
Anyone know of a good managed hosting (or vps) for Immich that doesn’t break the bank? I have about 5TB of photos/videos and I don’t feel safe without a remote backup. I played with self hosting and I really (really) like Immich but I keep Google photos/Drive just to ensure I won’t lose anything.

You might be surprised.English14·7 days agoSkip episodes become brand new episodes after enough time has passed! I recently watched “The Mark of Gideon” and had absolutely NO memory of it. Yay new trek!
Also you’re the second person I saw on here refer to “Take Me Out to the Holosuite” as anything other than great, and while I find that surprising I am glad to hear you’re on board!

James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Adding PieFed/Lemmy to lists of privacy options could raise awareness of its existanceEnglish1·7 days agoOr would concentrating my lemmy/piefed use strictly through a self-hosted one person instance account help to ensure nothing but what I’m ‘intentionally doing’ is tracked?
It would ensure that yes. The other instance would only see the IP of your instance, not browser information or anything else. I haven’t tried selfhosting, so I can’t speak to it’s difficulty, but as far as I know, there is no reason to distrust any of the major Lemmy or Piefed instances. I’m not an expert and it is open source software so anyone could theoretically edit the code if they wanted.
And privacy refers to having control over who can see your personal information, anonymity means being unidentifiable.

I looked into Aurora after seeing it recommended here but it is basically the same as Kinoite. I tried both and couldn’t tell the difference so I stuck with the more “official” one from Fedora
