Is there some language or “syntax formatter” that turns source code into something more off a visual programming language? Like a WYSIWYG markdown editor.
Like python doesn’t have curly braces, but you could add some kind of “block illustration”.
Or you could have illuminated initials for variable names to make them more unique.
I hope that this is only a few misguided bureaucrats of the ÜPF, who wake up and notice that they make a big mistake.
I’ve only skimmed but it seems he’s only angry at specific bureaucrats. I don’t see anything too outrageous.
I suspect that computer scientists have a tendency to believe that all complex problems can simply be broken down into many small parts and solved once and for all. But that is because they enjoy thinking that way for writing code or solving computer problems, and they are not educated at all in sociology, economy, psychology or political science. There are those who seek power above anything else - and that is why we can’t have nice things or simple solutions.
He does come across a bit like a libertarian nutjob as if it’s up to the “captains of industry” to fight crime and care for the well-being of people. Except of course about the surveillance area he is right, the surveillance state has always and will always overreach. And organized crime and terrorists can always circumvent legal means of surveillance by faking or stealing identities.
I recently thought about what I’m missing, and came up with something rather complicated (sorry, nothing simple haha)
Basically I’m often compiling information in markdown text files. But images are still web hosted. Sometimes I use spreadsheets and wish I could do simple additions in markdown tables. Or I use bookmarks, but know websites will go down and wish I could just “backup” any website in a compact file and organize it without mucking around with files. Zotero does this partly. I also use “SingleFile” to save websites but it would be nice if it was something semi-compatible to web-archive. Or maybe just save a stripped down version of an article like you see in “reader view” on Firefox. And of course usable in both desktop and mobile.
I do think Project Jupyter does something like this and there are also other note taking apps.
Overall the state of computer science in 2025 is still deplorable. The very basics of storing data still don’t have good solutions.
But that is a bonus, less people will bother me haha
Nah you’d have a chimney. The main reason I want a “separating drying toilet” is that it would have a fan and wouldn’t smell at all in your bathroom. And you’d probably also have a separating toilet as first step, then dehydration which can be closed cycle, and then either burning or compositing. And with that and biodegradable soap and detergents, sanitation becomes much less infrastructure intensive.
The only thing smart I want is a faucet that activates with button OR the knee / foot sensor, and gives water always with a precise programmed temperature and flow.
That and a temperature and timer controlled frying pan.
Well an incinerating toilet that just dries burns my shit using a 340W solar panel would be cool too.
Consider the OP article, is the CCP actually doing anything worse in regards of free press to inform their citizens than the USA? It’s pure garbage propaganda on all fronts in all directions and people simply don’t know what is real and what is important any more.
If you measure the actual quality of life in the US and China it might be that moving to China would be a good idea. If China would allow immigration lol
The CCP is authoritarian but they can act rationally and make long term plans. Meanwhile in the US and increasingly in western democracies only chaos and dumbassery reigns.
No somthing more than just “mere” syntax highlightinng or prettifying like e.g. in VS Code. Being able to change line height for a “headline” when you declare a new class. Or maybe lines that illustrate how a temp variable is used. But it’s all vague ideas and I can’t picture or describe it well and you’d have to demo this with a graphical design tool I think.
