Imagine if in the entirety of Lemmy, in all channels of all instances, there was a total of 6 posts per hour, and none of them were in channels you wanted to subscribe to.
It took a day before I got my activation email. There was no indication on the website it was gonna take that long, but I’m guessing it’s early enough that it might still require manual approval.
That said it’s still very much a ghost town
I’d like to argue that using AP is an inconsistent rule for membership. For example, Diaspora has been considered to be part of the fediverse from early on, but it doesn’t use AP.
I don’t really know where to draw the line. AP simply isn’t suitable for some applications, but it makes sense to include it for branding

At least pixelfed defaults you to the main instance so you don’t have to think about it if you don’t want to. Although the official android app hasn’t worked for me in ages.

The point simply is that Canada isn’t especially left. We can’t be, since we’re joined at the hip to the USA.
Canada is just America but 2 election cycles behind. We’re very similar politically, most of the left leaning appearance is just lip service, not policy. Look at how we continue to treat indigenous peoples.
I don’t think that UBI is the predominant reddit viewpoint either - I think that’s just the subs you’re in.
I’m Canadian too, and I certainly don’t consider reddit as left of center on average. It’s almost like 4chan lite.
But on that note, if you’re looking for Canadian instances, there are a few good ones.
The obvious one is lemmy.ca, but the other (bigger?) one is sh.itjust.works which is bilingual and I think is québécois.
Presumably a Canadian instance would have relatively Canadian political leanings, although as has been said before, instance doesn’t really matter.
The instance you’re on only matters in so far as which other instances they’ve defederated.
You can probably find more centerist instances, but it doesn’t really matter because your friend is probably just going to be in the same communities anyways.
I’m not really sure I’d call reddit left of center, though.

Both Wikipedia and fediverse.party consider Diaspora, and a handful of other (mostly defunct) protocols as being part of the fediverse.
I don’t really like the use of AP to be a qualification of being in the fediverse. There must be a better way to qualify a platform, even if it means that use of AP is a natural consequence.
