I used to think about this via mesh networks as simply routers, but now with nostr, IPFS, atProto and that new BT messaging stuff Jack Dorsey is on. Technically you could utilize your phone as an access point to the mesh network as you move around the city and load all the comms in the background. The latency would be high, but it could work. Also with 5g tech nowadays long range mesh networks are much more feasible albeit probably expensive for a hobbyist.

There are other Appviews on the atProto that have chosen not to implement checks that have full access to Bluesky posting/data.

Im thinking of the fork the devs of the programming.dev instance were trying to build, it was PHP. Can’t remember the name, then this and Pixelfed. I don’t know if favoritism is the right word but I do feel like 3 projects is a lot for the current ecosystem lol.

What’s up with ActivityPub projects being beholden to PHP. Not even pitting languages against each other, just interesting that most new projects nowadays will choose something like Typescript + React but fediverse tends to favor PHP.

Negativity of the AI crowd is so crazy to me while I’m having Claude Code Opus implement entire UIs on flutter and backend Go interfaces w/ unit and integration tests on a single go.

I use AI with python for hundreds line data engineering tasks and it nails it frequently.

I tried moving to Mastadon first a few years ago and it was a pretty shit experience, Bluesky however has stuck in my app rotation pretty well.

Let’s not kid ourselves the user experience is much much nicer on tiktok than on Mastadon.

Yeah I think we’ve been having on off discussions about ATProto’s place in the Fediverse here for probably 2ish years in multiple threads.

Looks like today the crowd has finally more sternly come to a decision lol. I think there were threads last year here around this ATProto with a lot better nuance and discussion, but Bluesky has been getting a lot of hate and misinformation thrown at it from this pocket of the internet lately, which is somewhat disappointing since they both the pocket should operate symbiotically.

This is just wrong. Another platform similar to tiktok(spark) is in beta with their own infrastructure outside of all Bluesky servers and they have to deal with their own moderation. They can choose to read in any Bluesky data they please and bluesky can do the same with theirs.

If Bluesky shuts down all servers tomorrow they still exist. The federation is simply adopting their Lexicon into your relay and appview.

If you want a microblogging platform specifically you can easily run your own infrastructure similar to running an instance, intake all BlueSky posts and if Bluesky shuts down your app will continue operating using BlueSkys lexicon, however you’ll have to manage your own moderation.

Not sure of the point here? If your end goal is decentralization yes run another relay similar to how you’d host a Mastodon instance.
