It depends on which symptoms you have and how strong or intense they are. My wife and I didn’t have excessive symptoms when we were younger, so didn’t really have too many problems making friends, while our kid has more issues with staying on topic and interrupting because of the need to get a thought out straight away. They’ve still got friends, but find it harder to make long term friends.
Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are you guys using to sort and name music?English11·1 month agoBe careful with Mediamonkey. I’ve got it on my phone and PC, and my music is getting quieter and quieter on the phone. I think it’s something to do with the volume leveling on the Android version, but haven’t had a chance to figure it out yet.
I can put a song on full volume, and it’s quiet enough that it’s difficult to hear. I’ve tried the same tracks through youtube, and the volume is fine, so it’s not the phone speakers.
Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@programming.dev•What would be the best setup to ease my niece (10) into tux land?English7·2 months agoI dont know about mint, but debian does security updates automatically and just politely asks for a reboot now and then, perfect for an “unattended” device.
Yeah, Mint can do this too. I’ve set it up on a few of our computers, but it was a while ago so I can’t remember exactly how. It was very easy though. The only downside was Firefox insisting on a restart after an update, but apparently that’s been fixed now :)
Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@programming.dev•Looking to make the switch - Advice?English8·2 months agoThe main image editor most people will recommend is GIMP, but depending on what type of image editing you’re doing, Krita might be better. They’re both available for Windows, so you can install them now and try them before you switch :)
GIMP is more like Photoshop, and can be made to look more like it with the PhotoGimp extention. Krita is more for digital drawing, but can be used for some photo editing too :)

I’ve found with this type of text that if I try to read it normally, I struggle to process the change between the start and end of each word, and read much more slowly. If I try to read quickly though, it flows, as if I’m skimming the words but still understanding them properly.
It’s a very strange feeling :)

I’ve said this before, but I don’t understand how a community that only provides links to external communities is supposed to help Lemmy grow, as opposed to taking people away 🤷🏻♂️
You can remember what you were thinking about earlier? 🤨🤥
Consciously processing the information that is coming at you while driving is just too much. Noticing everything.
Approaching intersection. Light is green. Four way intersection. Nobody turning left. Car in front of me holding speed. Black car. Behind me car holding speed red car. Pedestrians crossing in line with traffic on other side of street. No pedestrians this side. Light is still green. Car in front is still black. Car in front slowing slightly. Lane change behind me car is now green and matching my speed. Car turning right at intersection is silver and stopped to give me right of way.
Whew.
Ironically, this is the reason I love my motorbike. I can ride for hours in that state, and it feels amazing, like it’s feeding the hyperfocus, hyperactive part of my brain.
The second I stop though, I’m exhausted.
Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.comto ADHD memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Anyone else hating Shorts (the videos, not the pants or financial instruments)?English2·5 months agoI quite like shorts, but I only watch specific videos. I watch woodworking and Minecraft build videos to see if the technique is something that I’d want to try myself, and then either watch the longer version, or find other ways to try it out.
Joking aside though, it’s a great photo :)
‘I told you that Jim’s lens was too long to get the whole family in, but, nooo, you had to convince him that zooms are cool!’
I’ve put noise cancelling headphones on to use my computer, and forgotten both the music, and the noise cancelling. I sat there for about an hour with headphones on that did nothing 😫
