Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Electric vs. Gas Car: Try Our Calculator (Because the Math Is About to Change [in the US])
2·5 months agoI like things like this. I was able to find some pretty solid used EVs. Still going to hold off as my current car is fine and I mostly use bikes or transit, but this is good to know for a someday thing :)

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Nissan Leaf starts at $29,990 in the US
3·5 months agoYou might be in luck. Nissan is apparently going to release a base model called the S sometime soonish. This is the mid model release, like what Nvidia does with their GPU launches.
I also dislike the whole roof sunroofs because they tend to be terribly echo-y in every Uber I’ve been in. Feels like I’m in a McDonald’s tube slide.

61·6 months agoTheir loss. You are a crazy SOB if you think I’m going to buy another ICE car in 2031 when gas is already past $5/gal in 2025. A kw of power here is 11¢.
That looks like a very good swing in the background :)

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Electric vehicles are simply better. Here’s the proof.
5·6 months agoHonestly, I want one, but I also can’t throw around more than $45k, it needs to be AWD, and have a 2" hitch mount for mountain bikes.
The market is coming, but I’m trying to also drive only when strictly necessary to places where I cannot bike or take transit.

Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Two-thirds of U.S. GHG cuts since 2005 wiped out by higher methane — study4·6 months agoThis is in the “no shit” category for me. Switching to 1950s era tech gives you 1950s-era results. Switching to methane was the wrong idea. You have to go to nuclear* if you’re in a renewables-starved area, where the sun doesn’t shine, the wind doesn’t blow, and everything is too flat and dry for hydro (or geothermal).
*Even then, you have waste to energy as an option, provided you have the right filters. We have staggering amounts of garbage.

1·7 months agoIf there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years on this planet, it’s that all animals have souls. Many animals are far more intelligent and self-aware than we give them credit for.
Hold on, queer sex has to be a lot bigger on this pie chart. Very important!

5·7 months ago“what God has made plain through nature and Scripture.”
Yeahhh…about that. A lot of animals have gay sex and straight sex at different times. A ton of animals are bisexual in nature. You can even see this in pets.
It’s why pride parades and teaching LGBT history to the next generation is so important. You nip it all in the bud; homophobia, and anxiety related to homophobia. Everything becomes more peaceful and chill regardless of sexual orientation.
Even straight people didn’t have to worry about getting accused and fired over dumb shit like “appearing to be gay” (like 1954’s lavender scare) or getting accused of being trans and using “”“the wrong bathroom”“” (like 2024’s lavender scare).

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Replaced a Chevy Bolt with an Ioniq 5 and it's a huge upgrade
2·9 months agoIt’s to keep you from falling asleep/getting distracted my a phone/etc. It came with the trim, which was annoying AF. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to remove. Basically just an IR cam and a IR floodlight attached to a logic daughter board. Pop the unit out, and put the cladding back.
I removed it because it kept beeping loudly that it couldn’t see my eyes, causing me to nearly crash. It gets fooled by sunglasses, the things you use in summer for the sun, and winter for snow blindness/glare.

LGBTQ+@beehaw.org•Utah and Idaho capitals adopt new pride flags to sidestep bans
9·9 months agoRare W for Idaho and Utah. Good on them for fighting back. Love that Idaho town for making every day a “special occasion” in order to to fly the Canadian flag. ❤️
Fully supportive!

Honestly, this is a small work truck. It would be a great fleet vehicle. Most people don’t really need anything too fancy, we want affordable vehicles. I don’t like trucks; they’re far too big for city use. But the idea is good, and I’d love to see small affordable electric cars.
