Came here to say that: the most economic solution is to backup any dockerfiles themselves, though that also has the caveat that any installs within the build steps might also depend on external resources that could also be dropped.
There are methods of adding a local caching layer between your system and external, which might be what OP is after, but that involves investing in the additional space needed to back them up
This is my dream, whenever I have the next opportunity. It may not pay that much, but I’d rather contribute more to my local community the best way I can than make “dev salary”

Thanks! I agree that its cool of him to offer that, just a bit painful on all sides 🙂
I’ll rephrase lol it’s per device, so any issue or reflash means you have to contact?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is self-hosting becoming too gatekept by power users?English
2·4 months agoFair enough! My own experience has so far been less helpful, due to it hallucinating config based on what I’m asking and if my use case is possible, which made me turn more to perusing docs and source code 🙃

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is self-hosting becoming too gatekept by power users?English
92·4 months agoEh, the issue with using AI with something like a self-hosted setup is that it lacks nuance and is most likely sourced from all the stack overflow answers without including, again, any context that might be involved.
This leads to situations where it “works,” but potentially in a way with glaring issues that you would otherwise get from this community.
That said, I understand that “advanced” users here can be uptight about things that they believe to be a foregone conclusion, which is where the whole “learning” aspect is what we all need: both learning to self-host “better” and learning to help others.

So far, so good? The initial rollout was rough, and the app kept reuploading my whole album and then realizing it was already there.
But since the flurry of hotfixes, its been smoother sailing

Its pretty easy to set up, though I’ve been using a self hosted btsync for years now instead of syncthing: set up your folder, share with server, and wipe your hands :)
That said, I also have family on mine and have a 1pass family sub, which was the only way I could get people to use non standard passwords
