gid@lemmy.blahaj.zonetoLGBTQ+@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Why we took action against Stonewall and their Genocide “Champions”
6·4 months agoThe idea that “there is no queer liberation while other groups are still oppressed” is core to the concept of class solidarity.
If an unethical (in the context of enabling oppression of Palestinians) company treats its queer employees with respect, is that really to be celebrated? Is the oppression of Palestinians an acceptable price for that progress? I don’t think so.

2·5 months agoI can’t think of any specific EU vendors, but Etsy is a great place to find independent sellers and you can filter by region.
If you don’t mind extending your search out to the UK, I can thoroughly recommend buying from the anarchist, queer print shop Black Lodge Press. They print stickers and zines in limited runs, so just checking now they don’t have much available, but previously they had some great “Queer love destroys fascism” stickers. It’s worth keeping an eye on their store.

50·5 months agoI think it might speak to other parents who are not accepting? Like it shows that someone who also thought like them was open to having their mind changed. They might be more willing to listen to her story.
Update: I found the original article. It’s very light on details and only mentions there was a time some years ago where Tamzin struggled with accepting her son’s identity. Still, it’s nice (to me, anyway) to see a positive development arc.
It’s in the Gay Village in Manchester! I can thoroughly recommend going.
I recently visited the statue of him in Sackville Gardens in Manchester. It’s good to see him being remembered.

LGBTQ+@beehaw.org•Pride flag moved in Matlock after Christian bookshop complaintEnglish
24·6 months agoIt sounds like the council received a veiled threat:
Matlock Town Council said it had received communication that the rainbow flag could be “forcibly removed” from outside Cornerstone Christian Bookshop in Dale Road, so action was taken to relocate the flag to another central location to avoid confrontation or damage.
The council said the decision was “purely from a health and safety standpoint” and it stood in “full support of the LGBTQIA+ community”.
Stay classy, Christians 🖕🏻
Do you know you’re being disingenuous?
Straight people aren’t being murdered for being straight.
None of your points are examples of how it’s dangerous to be straight.

311·8 months agoOh yeah I fully agree, it throws multiple peoples under the bus. The thing is, trying to argue about biology with them is almost pointless because the proponents of this anti-trans rhetoric don’t actually care about what they call “biological facts”. The fact that they have based a legal ruling on a premise that is widely understood to be mistaken shows this.
They just want to punch down and punish the people whose mere existence challenges their preconceptions.

704·8 months agoSo much about this judement is so distressingly wrong.
Trans women are women. Trans men are men.
I came his to say something similar but you’ve expressed it far more eloquently than I could have.

I’m not shocked they’d introduce legislation to protect their own market, even if it’s shitty legislation for renewable energy.
nutomic is one of the founders of the Lemmy project, so that’s probably not going to happen.
