I really wish a platform would come out with a “I like this song, but not so much that I want to hear it everyday, maybe play it once a month or so” button

I definitely wouldn’t say it is selfish by any stretch of the imagination. But I can see how someone would get offended if you forgot theirs.
I’m horrible with names too. I’m just up front with people about it. If anyone gives me a hard time I tell them I’m face blind. That usually ends the discussion or them trying to give me tips.
I agree saying someone’s name over and over feels creepy. I know why they do it, but it comes off super unauthentic.
I’m fine with my own name, but I have a very common name that is always shortened. For some reason it makes me want to crawl out of my skin when someone says the shortened version with my last name.
I can’t say if it’s a common ADHD thing. But you can add one more ADHD (probably somewhere on the spectrum) person who is in agreement with you.

3·3 months agoNothing is better than finding that perfect drinking vessel. For me it’s a Tervis tumbler. Even when we have formal dinners like Christmas and Thanksgiving I’ll have my Philadelphia Eagles tumbler on the table along with the fancy stemware glasses.
Tell your man to go kick rocks and drink how you want to drink.
I already have one of those. It’s my half-bath with a clogged branch drain. I tried to snake it for close to an hour with no luck. I got so frustrated that I had to step away. Now I have a clogged drain, a toilet sitting in the hallway, paper towels shoved in the hole to keep the smell from coming up, and tools all over the floor.

29·8 months agoI have 20 years experience in IT process automation, with the last 15 spent in consulting. The number one thing I’ve learned is businesses don’t care about the technology. I could write the coolest automation that covers 99% of potential issues, but if it costs more to run than having a person in India push a button, they won’t buy it.
I don’t care what M$ says, Azure DevOps is being left for dead. As someone who worked on the System Center space for years, I know the signs of a product they want to kill but can’t. I’m convinced the only reason it is still around is because some internal teams haven’t moved to GitHub yet.
This is me with unsaved files in VS Code. Every so often I’d go through and try to clean them up but it stayed around 150 files. I got a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and I’ve slowly crawled back up to about 15-20.

6·1 year agoI love the joke, and I also love her.
She is the sweetest person I’ve met at a convention. I was pretty starstruck meeting her, so of course my brain just turned off, and she was so kind and told me a couple of stories. When my brain finally rebooted, I asked her to sign the picture for my wife, and she came around the table to give me a hug telling me how sweet that was. She could have just signed a picture and sent me on my way. But her taking that extra 30 seconds or so gave me an experience I’ll never forget.

Programming@programming.dev•Do you use a macro keyboard for shortcuts? If so, what for and what size?
5·1 year agoI have 6 programmable keys on my keyboard. I have macros for a few snippets that I have to type a lot and my email because my company has a stupid long name that I’m sick of typing out.

Fiction Books@literature.cafe•Recommendations for some easy to read 'feel good' fiction books?
2·1 year agoDiscworld books by Terry Pratchett. The best description I’ve ever heard is they are JRR Tolkien mets Mel Brooks. There are 41 books with multiple story lines but every book is written to be stand alone. Most are around 300 pages with plenty of good stopping points, making them easy to pick up and put down.
I read them in publication order, but there are multiple guides on recommended reading orders if you want to read specific story lines.
