It can be, but a large percentage of WP installs aren’t even blogs that manage posts over time. They are basic 20-30 brochure-ware sites that use WP as a page builder.

WP is popular with .edu sites where they are managing thousands of structured content types; faculty profiles, academic programs, events, etc.

Drupal is also a popular solution for that type of project where managing a large amount of structured data is a key feature.

My experience has been that WP needs to “built up” to handle large site while Drupal needs to “burned down” to be a good fit for small, page building projects.

Though Drupal’s new preconfigured Drupal CMS installer with “recipes” for different use cases is making it a better option for smaller site projects.

The amount of design elements (HTML beyond text markdown like divs) and pseudocode (elements that only render when parsed before delivering to the browser) that end up in the content is something to consider. Enabling a text editor alone does not tell you much. You can support easier bold, italic and strike though with a structured data approach.

It’s when you get into creating layouts in the editor that really differentiants a page builder from a content management solution.

  • @Cris_Color@lemmy.world being nice helps establish the “tone”, but I’m not sure that wouldn’t change with another “API event” on Reddit that results in another, larger mass migration.

Another suggestion I have for college graduates is to ask your alma mater if they are going to start using something other than commercial social to engage with alumni.

Most universities don’t want to make mistakes investing in the bleeding edge, but they are quick to follow. When a few schools do something, many more quickly copy that. They are also looking for low cost wins. Their engagement numbers are already telling them that Xwiiter no longer works to reach alumni or potential students.

If even a handful of alumni suggest a change at the right time, that is often enough to get them to give federated social a try.

That is when the less toxic “tone” really helps.

It is only “free” if you choose not to pay. Unlike commercial social that’s free for you to use BECAUSE you are the product being sold, federated social is only free to you because someone else is paying.

I completely agree that mass adoption requires well primed communities which requires early adopters to put more effort into engaging.

I would also add that clicking on anything linked helps too… Many news outlets are data driven. If you want them to invest more with federated social, click the links so the engagement shows up in their analytics.

  • @Dhs92@programming.dev if the bike is heavy enough to require a 4" reciever, your options are limited for non-trucks. If you are looking for something higher end, a Volvo Recharge or Audi etron will have the larger hitch capable of supporting the weight of an ebike. If your looking for a deal and don’t mind having add a sticker explaining that you are not a Nazi, I belive the Model 3 has a hitch capable of that weight. You need to look at each vehicle’s tounge rating. Unlike a trailer where the weight is largely carried by the wheels, an ebike carrier acts like a level. The further from the vehicle the bike is, the more force is put on the hitch reciever when the bike is bouncing around.

If you look at the manual for a Cybertruck, the tounge is only rated at 160 lbs. Depending on the weight of the rack + bike, you’ll likely exceed that. Whistlin Deisel did a few videos about that. The max tounge rating on a XC60 is 350lbs.

    Hope that helps.

  • @haverholm@kbin.earth I don’t know much about this plugin, but I do know it was “aquired” by Automattic… basically meaning that the developer was hired to work for Automattic. I don’t watch every episode of As WP Turns, but in the last episode of that drama I watched I think Matt announced that Automattic was scaling back their contributions to the open source aspects of WP… which would include this plugin.

If you want to see this change, you will likely need to make the request in the form of a PR. If you don’t have the knowledge and skills required to do that (and aren’t willing to invest the time it take to gain that knowledge and skill), I suggest you start being more professional and polite when making requests for the changes you want.

You’ve paid nothing for this code. Have some empathy for the maintainer.

@moseschrute@lemmy.world sometimes it takes letting it play out for people to remember the leason that history could have thaught them. Do your best now to prepare for some tough times. If you own your home outright, get that basement ready for a renter. If you’ve already leveraged 80% of your home, get out from under that NOW and look for a basement to rent.

Read some Steinbeck. Watch Idocracy. Strike up a conversation with the oldest people you cross paths with about what they remember their parents telling them about the great depression. It’s going to suck, but when someone can convince this many Americans to vote against their own interests their is a more fundamental problem.

I personally take a little joy from the interveiws with people laid off who didn’t realize the company they worked for was producing products for federally subsidized clean energy initiatives.

  • @moseschrute@lemmy.world no need to call. @npr@flipboard.com is already on a federated social solution with 2.3 million followers. Until the end of 2020, they were also active at @NPR@mstdn.social. If you want media to prioritize these new, unownable solutions over legacy social, you have to show them there is an audience here and follow them.

If you are from CO, please follow @coloradosun@mstdn.social and @RyeBread@toot.community.
