I keep hearing that it’s possible to do this on lemme, but I’m new and haven’t figured out how yet.

I’ve never had an instagram account, and I can still watch videos and such that others post.
I really fucking don’t.
Last time I was on Facebook I had added a relative of my dead best friend/roommate because she’d been over a lot working with his dog (which was a purebred that she had given him and was going to take back cause I couldn’t keep him) and we got along pretty well. After a few months of just the worst kind of low-effort, disinformation-laden culture-war conspiracy-theory meme bullshit (‘zomg liberals literally eat babies!’ and shit like using literal Nazi propaganda posters to refer to liberals) and me getting ever more frustrated trying to put good information alongside bad, I finally gave up. I was barely holding on to Facebook to talk to a couple people, but then I realized I had fb messenger and didn’t need facebook for that shit anymore.
Step 1: Stop using facebook?
Ah, good ol’ Gowron Crazy-Eyes. On more than one occasion I was convinced those suckers were just going to pop right out of his head.
I see lots of app recommendations, but is there any way to do this on desktop? I really don’t want to have to click on each post, but I’m tired of getting the same stuff over and over again.
That looks more than a little bit like the Mahir Supron FS3 from Cyberpunk 2077.
Sneaky space elves, of course. Haven’t you heard? Elves are magic.
Ah, fair enough, thanks! // Yeah I looked into Hexbear briefly and it didn’t seem like my jam, but I’ll check out slrpnk and dbzer0.
Seems like an opportunity to lose users. The whole instance thing is already kinda confusing for new people (source: just joined yesterday), but making every instance only connect to a select few instances would mean having to make an account on multiple different instances if you wanted to see a disparate selection of content. As much as I enjoy debating politics and religion I wouldn’t join a server that only showed those communities because I also like videos of huskies being sassy, battletech memes, etc.
What’s hilarious is that my perma-ban got lifted on appeal, I can post and shit now, but the message they sent me said it was denied and would stay in place. They are so goddamnned confused over there.
Thanks, that ought to get me started.
The message about my perma-ban was actually 11 hours older than the message about my temp-ban being lifted, so they perma-banned me and then un-temp-banned me, which is… kinda fucky.
I’m new myself, thanks for the recommendations. While you’re at it, do you happen to know of any good political/religion debate … subs? what are they called here? I’m going to call them subs for now. Maybe some Anarchist and non-tankie Communist subs?
I just arrived today myself, after being temp-banned for 7 days for some bullshit reasons that the appeal team agreed were bullshit so they unbanned me, but not before someone else perma-banned me for violating the rules on ‘my other accounts’ – I’ve had a single reddit account for the entire 14 years I’ve been there, I don’t even make throwaways, so, even more bullshit. I appealed that one too, but even if it’s overturned I’m not sure I’m going back. They’ve gotten real fucking fashy all of a sudden with the censorship, banning people for upvoting shit and calling it ‘inciting violence.’ Fuck 'em.
Yeah, it’s textbook enshittification.
I’m kinda weird in that I’m very text-oriented rather than visual-oriented, and this even results in a preference for keyboard over mouse, if I can’t hotkey a thing by god I will go get a tool that will let me hotkey it, etc. As such, I type everything up in a notes app that syncs between my phone and PC. Also, while I do sometimes bookmark things, I often forget that I have so most things I find again just by remembering what I searched for last time when I find it.
Heh, I came by my abortive (due to disability) cybersecurity career honest - I never really did much hacking, but I built and maintained networks for years and sorta just picked it up. Course it helps that I’d had a couple friends for years before I got into it who had been in the business a long time (one was the network security head for a Tier 2 ISP that covered most of the American Southwest, and the other was on the penetration-testing red team at a US government national laboratory) and liked to talk shop.
