Well, that sucks. Now what?

Well, that sucks. Now what?

I guess its time for another re-watch.

This was most definitely my least favourite. Why show what Kionians look like in episode 1 when you’re just going to make them all look human in episode 7. Just seems lazy to me.
Genesis and Caleb’s story was better, but seemed out of character for Genesis. I also disliked the suggestion that men & women can’t be friends without falling in love with each other.

I’m starting to like the Venari Ral quite a bit actually. They seem to be more like actual mustache twirling pirates rather than a tyranical government masquerading as pirates like the chain was. I’m waiting for Calebs mom to be re-introduced as his right hand in the finale.

I really like this take. I did get the impression that Dax is also kinda the wild child of the symbiotes too, for many of the reasons you listed. They are also very passionate about their friends. They chose to uphold a blood oath that even the Klingons didn’t consider binding, they stood by Sisko for 3 lifetimes, they refused to break the confidence of one of Curzon’s married lovers, at the risk of their life, and they protected Jake’s book, for many centuries. They hold onto these generational bonds, even though its taboo for the Trill.

From what I’ve been told Trekker was the OG term and Gene started calling fans Trekkies at conventions because he thought it sounded better. I don’t know if it’s true or not.

I very much enjoyed this one. I’ve always loved Klingon culture and Worf was always my favourite main cast member. In TNG/DS9 we often saw a juxtaposition between Klingon honour and victory/power at any cost that often took over. I really found it heartening that Klingons post burn are willing to risk extinction for their culture when 800 years ago many wouldn’t think twice to using dishonourable means to get a seat on the council.

I agree. Gaming has gotten to the point that its honestly better just to wait the 6 months, let the studio debug and actually have a finished product and then buy it when its 20% off.

I had some concerns going in, but enjoyed them a lot more than I expected. Good to see some familiar faces, especially Vance as he was one of the better Disco s3 additions.

Yeah, I know. Its just frustrating. After Ent we went a long time without any Trek TV shows and then we got Discovery. Although it wasn’t perfect it scratched an itch for a lot of people. Then we got a lot of shows. We were told that there was going to be Star Trek all year long, and that there would always be a show airing all year long. Now it seems that every current show is coming to an end or already ended and we’re left with a lot of unknowns. A young adult college Trek and maybe a non Starfleet workplace comedy (as well as the last 2 seasons of SNW I guess too).
I’m honestly going in hopeful. I wasn’t sure about Lower Decks when it came out and now its one of my favourite shows. I really hope it does turn out good.

So… on the first point, hasn’t every series had at least one character who has to find themselves throughout the series? Weasley in TNG. Nog and Jake in DS9, Harry was on his first posting after the acadamy I believe in Voyager, Tilly was a cadet in Discovery and later Adira joining the crew and trying to fit in, Uhrua’s whole story in SNW is that she doesn’t know where she fits in, Prodigy is about a band of misfit kids trying to find a place they belong, even Worf’s whole arc is about him trying to find who he is and where he belongs as well. This is something that Star Trek has always explored.

I have some concerns. This kinda looks like a bad Degrassi rip off in space. I hope I’m wrong and it’s actually a great show. Just remember, we lost Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and will lose Strange New Worlds soon, for whatever this is going to be.

Thank you. It was somehow worse than I thought. The endless looping of “I’ve got” in the background while the enterprise slowly flew past was a great touch. Keep up the good work.

And I read that Tilly is only in a couple episodes.

2 pip Kim is not to be trusted.

I played the demo this morning and really enjoyed it. It seemed a little rough around the edges, I had some problems navigating the ship and finding rooms, but it seemed pretty good. Its on my wishlist now.

I honestly assumed that she’d be one of the main instructors. Especially with Micheal saying something about Tilly being the Acadamy’s longest serving instructor (or something like that) in the Disco epilogue.

Thanks for the recommendation. Once I found the “n” I mistyped as “m” in one of the file directories it actually went quite well. I looked at setting up sonarr & radarr, but its really just me and my partner using it right now, so I’ll put that on the back burner until I get more storage.

Thanks I’ll look into this tonight. I’m still trying to wrap my head around dockers and containers etc. I think I’ve a pretty good handle on it now, but it still hurts my brain after a while.
There are absolutely echo chambers and polarization on Lemmy. It’s definitely less noticeable than Reddit or Facebook, but its still there. They can definitely be good things too, but when the conversation is driven by one or a few people and everyone else constantly agrees or goes along with the status quo it becomes a problem.
For profit models seem to prioritize engagement over moderation, as long as people are commenting and driving engagement, even if it’s largely negative, toxic, or even completely false, it’s okay.
On Lemmy, at least for the most part, Toxic behaviour isn’t tolerated and most communities are pretty good at discouraging false narratives. I don’t think I’ve ever felt attacked here, or really elsewhere on Lemmy, for providing my views in a comment section like I did on Reddit, even if they were contrary to the prevailing opinions. When attacks and negativity are not tolerated actual discussion is much easier.
