Here’s the great thing about toys: they can’t ask me to call them anything. I can get a Buzz Lightyear doll and call it Woody. I can build a Millennium Falcon out of plastic blocks and call it the Serenity. Since they are toys I own and not sentient beings, I am not offending them.

5·2 months agoAt least in America, racism is so prevalent and core to our society that I’d never attribute racism in small children solely to bad parenting. Racism and misogyny are driven in part by exposure to… well, just about every part of American culture. Parents can try to course-correct, but (especially white) parents may not have the tools or language to adequately educate their children in the face of cultural indoctrination.

3·3 months agoIn case Google incorrectly identifies someone as under 18, users can submit a photo of their government ID or a selfie to verify their age.
So Google is going to incorrectly identify damn near everyone as a minor now, right?
So what’s your stance on AAVE? Or ASL? Or even just regional dialects where the fizzy drink is called pop versus soda? What is your one guiding light on how English is supposed to be, and who adheres to it?
