Do these things have to be backed by huge banks of local batteries or are grids usually able to handle sudden spikes of 1.5MW per charging car?

Each flash-charging stall is equipped with two charging guns and a super-fast discharging energy storage system. It can maintain flash-charging speeds even when two vehicles charge simultaneously, according to BYD.

Sounds like it’s got a built-in battery about the size of 26 77kwh car batteries, and is maybe fed 24x7 by a 100 amp, 480v 3-phase charger.

This sounds like the “FreeWire Boost” chargers in US… except 12.5x as much batteries.
