Is it going to be a preview or just jumping ahead a decade because humanity can’t seem to give a fuck?

El Niño will fade, so the summer of 2029 will almost certainly be less extreme than the summer of 2026. Of course if 2035 is an El Niño year, it’ll be a “preview of 2045” and so on.

So this framing is somewhat misleading because where-ever the climate ends up stabilizing, El Niño will be on top of that. This El Niño will be a typical El Niño for the 2020s, and every El Niño for the next century will be worse.

So rather, I would put it like this: this summer will be below average compared to a decade or more from now. When you look at news of the firestorms and floods and droughts and famines and devestating hurricanes, remember that by 2040 you’ll wish for weather as calm as now.

2026 is not even an “El Nino year”. While it is very likely that El Nino will start this year and La Nina will be cut short, the brunt of the effect will be seen summer 2027, not 2026. Of course, this summer will be nothing to write home about.

Can. We. Please. Already. Get. Wealth caps.

Nobody should be worth over 10 million, tax any income over that at 100%

No more billionaires, no more private jets, no more 100 people that we allow to destroy the planet. Nobody would be too rich, too powerful and we could finally switch to green renewables and nuclear, and focus on healing the world from what humanity has done to it
