How could permafrost be considered a sink? Wouldn’t it have to continue to grow to be a sink? It’s not like if a tree or bush dies in the northern latitudes these days, it’ll get pushed into the ground before it rots. So how would new carbon get locked into the permafrost? Just it’s roots?
