I have the 94 Amp hour BEV, without the gas range extender. On a good day I have 130 miles of range if I don’t take it on the interstate. At 75mph, like Texas and New Mexico, I have about 90 miles.

I’m currently driving my BMW i3 from Cincinnati Ohio to Flagstaff Arizona (posting this from Albuquerque). This was impossible only a year or so ago. There have been a couple of times when I was nervous about distances between chargers, but the, ‘A Better Route Planner’, app makes it foolproof. Especially if you connect it to your OBD2 port.

I drive an i3 and have since 2018. I recently starting looking to see if there is a compelling upgrade from it and…there just isn’t. Hell, I would just buy an updated i3 with slightly more range and acceleration and Android Auto. I would pay upwards of $50k for that… BMW? Are you hearing me?!?

I’m also interested to see how these hold up in the long run. I have a 2017 BMW ev and really the only maintenance has been tires and a cabin air filter. One of the main reasons I have avoided buying cars like a Porsche ICE vehicle is that, once you have purchased it, there are large, ongoing maintenance costs and it feels like I’m signing up for a subscription service for my vehicle. If these are fast, cheaper, and also have low ongoing costs I might be in. I’m also mildly concerned about all of the telemetry they gather. I would really rather have a dumb car that I can hook to my smart phone and display Open Street Map or something on it. Then I get to make my software choices to a greater extent.
The ABRP app that I’m using to route plan asks me this question every time I charge, so I’ve become more aware of it on this trip. The Flying J/EVgo chargers are pull through and will accommodate a trailer. Maybe prefer those in whatever routing app you use?
