Being better than Meta is not exactly a high bar to clear.😄
Anyway, it’s nice to see that Google is taking at least one thing seriously.

😆 Randall knows what he is talking about.
Nah. Rookie numbers. Burning high sulfur coal is the way to maximize pollution, suffering and death. Might not be as cheap as solar, but that’s the price you have to pay if you want to be the number one enemy of humanity and the rest of the planet.
Maybe Google is building their own gas power plants, just like these guys.
As far as sci-fi literature is concerned, religious cults could be a “solution“. Just look how WH40k and Dune approach AI. Also, those cults solved one problem, but caused a long list of new problems, so…
I guess one thing we can do is document the causes of our demise so that maybe the post apocalyptic historians can warn the survivors.
Rookie numbers. During his last term, he got to 30,573 blatant lies or misleading claims. I expect that his reports should reach at least a 100 lies per page.
In recent decades, China has invested heavily on building renewable energy infrastructure. I think it’s a matter of time until they start deploying arch furnaces, and grid energy storage. If/when that happens, Chinese emissions could be much lower than many other countries, no matter how you measure it.
We are number one!
Once China starts shutting down its old steel mills and coal plants, their emissions should drop drastically. That’s when USA will be left as the number 1 polluter in the world.
Warfare is an incredibly polluting endeavor. Working for peace is a vital part of fixing our planet.
IMO, political will is the biggest bottleneck in this transition. If we decide to make fossil fuels expensive, they will be. Politicians just don’t seem to want that for some reason.
Delusional conspiracy trash is another issue, but I think that’s a secondary problem. Most likely, politicians just appeal to conspiracy BS because of economic short term reasons. It’s not about what they know or believe about the climate.
Cars aren’t even the main problem. When you burn coal, oil or gas to produce electricity and heat for various purposes, that’s covers vast majority of the emissions. Maybe start with the biggest emitters?
They are currently laying the foundation for the future where they can shift the balance from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Take a look at the amount of renewable energy they’re producing. Not only is that growing fast, it’s already a large quantity.
Some industries, like steel, will take longer to switch, so getting rid of fossil fuels entirely will probably take a very long time. Total energy consumption is also likely to increase in the future, so the existing emitters will likely continue to be in operation for decades. However, as the energy demand increases, more and more of that energy will be produced by renewable means. This means that, due to renewable energy production, the total emissions won’t grow as fast as they otherwise would.
