I have zero idea what I’m doing :)

Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Temperature Change in Switzerland.English121·13 days agoThe solution to this is societal collapse and time.(1000+ years after) We can’t adapt our current civilisation quickly enough to survive this, we refuse to adapt to using lower emsisions (only thing left is radical change as we’ve run out of time) so there are no other outcomes left.
Collapse is already happening and we fiddle while the planet burns. We are all Nero now.

Not sure how you post a Mastodon link on Lemmy.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Linux@programming.dev•The end of Windows 10 is approaching, so it's time to consider Linux and LibreOfficeEnglish3·23 days agoGrab a 1 TB nvme, take the Widows one out, install the new SSD boot the USB thumbdrive, install Bazzite (or Mint) and off you go, that’s all I did. I’m running LMDE but not a big gamer, so the little I do play all works on Mint Debian Edition.
If it all gives you the shits after a time, just put the old SSD back in and boot back into Windows.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Linux@programming.dev•The end of Windows 10 is approaching, so it's time to consider Linux and LibreOfficeEnglish2·23 days agoTrue but like Reddit shitting the bed every 8 months leads to waves of folks on Lemny, or Twaxter doing the same thing leading to Mastodon waves. This wikl be another wave but how many ? Maybe a few 1000 only I guess ? I left for Mint about 3 years ago (dual boot defaulting to Mint) then to LMDE 12 months ago.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Anyone else going basic with their NAS?English41·23 days agoI don’t really get the whole NAS thing i must admit. Most of what I read about what people are doing is enabling slacker family and friends ? (That’s not a critisism, just an observation)
I have a TV, a HDD connected on the router and Kodi on the Nvidia Shield Pro. Any music is stored on my phone, or streamed via Netradio
I very occasionally copy media across to my phone to watch and then… it sits there and I dont watch it.
My parter uses Kodi on the TV occasioanly.
I don’t stream anything aside from some YT occasionally (DIY etc)
I get people do endless shit with their NAS, or server but I’m am retired and don’t have the time
Books are managed via Calibre on a a Kobo.

Individuals or small groups of individuals can, as best they can.
We won’t be adapting, there will be lots of kicking the can down the road though, which can be confused for adaptation… I guess.

There’s widespread support for this amongst voters, just witness the recent Australian election for proof of that. Where >90% of voters voted against any action. I.e didn’t Vote Green
Compound that with near zero understanding of climate change, the pervasive view is slightly warmer summers and AC is the answer and not much to worry about vs the seemingly ever more likely exestntial risk
See the link above to an article about increased coal production from Australia and the insanity of the defence of the orthodoxy.

Dual booting with Ubutu a couple tiimes over the last decade, then tried dual booting with Mint 3 years ago on W10, thenW11 is annouced, seems the enshitifaction would be worse but, didn’t use Mint, same reasn I’d not used Ubuntu, fell back on the familiar.
Purchased a new NVME 2 years ago, instilled Mint on it and took the dual boot NVME physically out, 3 months later formated it and use it for Timeshift :) Then.went to LMDE.
Eventually got sick of the nagging on my infrequently used Surface Pro 7 about going to W11 and did the same thing there, wiped it and installed LMDE, a few hiccups but used the Surface Pro drivers from Github and got it sorted eventually, touch works etc
The main reason i stayed was Adobe Lighroom but that was enshitifying as well. I still haven’t wrapped my head around Darktable properly but less time spent on photography these days as well
