Aito, a brand born from the collaboration between tech giant Huawei and automaker Seres

will feature a sodium-ion battery from CATL capable of an astonishing 12C charging rate, theoretically allowing for a full charge in 5 minutes.

Aren’t sodium ion batteries supposed to be much heavier — which is why they’re used in backup/storage systems and not cars?

The only country they will be able to sell to is the US, which is increasingly becoming less relevant an auto market.

I honestly didn’t think that US made vehicles were relevant to the global market in the first place.

Ford, GM and Stellantis are all over the world, although Stellantis (which includes Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep) isn’t American.

Also the Fords we get in Europe are completely different from the ones in the US, the two branches are almost completely separate. Different models, not produced in the same place, etc etc.

No bans, just 100% tariffs to make them non-competitive to gasoline vehicles

12C charging rates means fast charging for small batteries. I would be perfectly happy with a 300km range car if I could recharge in 15 minutes.

I don’t believe any battery news unless they are sold to customers. They are always just full of shit, like some lab batteries that just are impossible to produce.

Solid state batteries have been around the corner for 20 years.

And 1,2MW charging, unless you are directly attached to power plant, that is not something that is going to ever happen in DC charging station. The 350kW stations are already in the edge what is possible.
