    I always laugh when people bitch about the 4 shift rotation like it’s the only thing Jelico did wrong.

    Galaxy class ships are interstellar cruise liners. Crew comfort is one of the top priorities and they have about a thousand crew to run a ship that maybe takes 200-250 people run due to automation and how highly trained the crew is (in theory at least.)

    So from Jelico’s perspective, he’s got overstaffed crews bumping into each other during their job and ensigns doing science projects to fill their duty hours, when he can add a fourth shift, reduce work hours to 6 hours and potentially have a second shift on standby while they spend time with their family or relax. It’s really only the senior staff that are negatively affected by the change, and at that point… who cares? They are supposed to be the best of the best on the fleet flagship.
