Lacking the words for it is so real. I’m working with 2-3 year olds and a big part of what I’m doing this year is helping equip them with the understanding of gender (including the words to describe these things) and working with staff on anti-bias and how to recognise their own.
It’s refreshing to see how so many kids by the time they’re hitting primary school are knowledgeable about this stuff. I know one primary school near me as ‘theys’ toilets along with the boys/girls toilets. I am so excited for these generations to grow up and start running things.
From my earliest memories I always wanted to be ‘cute’, to the point that by 8 or so I was falling asleep trying to squish my head in my hands to stop me growing more masculine/‘not cute’ in my child-like mind.
By 15 there was global news about a trans girl in Germany wanting to go on blockers and it was this huge ordeal as she was ‘so young’ etc. I remember wishing I could’ve done that. I found out that it was near impossible to ever do in my country and required lots of therapy and you needed approval etc. I knew I’d never get too so I gave up on the thought.
By 17 I started ordering womens clothes on ebay and sneaking them into my room. Totally cis though!
I eventually gave up on it all because it could never happen and I just looked more and more masculine as I aged.
At 37 I met an enby kid in the daycare I worked at, I was so inspired that a little 3 year old was living their truth, and I soon discovered you could do informed consent. I realised I was trans and everything in my life ‘clicked’, such as my lifelong wish to be a lesbian. I’m on HRT now and happier than ever.

Often it’s a bit of a “first hit is free” type deal where they help you find your matching colours etc, but as it’s in their companies product line you’re kinda pathed into being their customer as it’s what you know.

172·5 days agoThe thing is, nothing is automated. From what I can see it only flags potential posts for a mod/admin to verify and act on.
It’s not like this is a bot that scans everyone’s posts and automatically bans them, it’s an entirely manual process to download a comment history and AI ctrl-f for stuff.
There has been some deceptive information spread around what this tool seems to actually do. Which is especially concerning after the recent (proven) misinformation about Nazis infiltrating our instances.
We defederated from 2 weeks ago after a heads up from @Deceptichum@quokk.au. What a horrible instance it is.
My bad! I had to upgrade the server over the weekend and forgot too restart it. It’s up now.
What’s to ‘account’ for banning people?
Do moderators reflect instances or communities?
If communities have high rates of bad-faith posters engaging to troll and harass them, is that something that needs to be held to ‘account’?
