After 2 million kilometers (1.25 million miles), CATL’s EV batteries retained about 400 km (250 mi) of range. Competitor cells, on the other hand, retained considerably less, at around 350 km (218 mi) and less.

For example, CATL is one of four LFP battery suppliers at the Zhangbei National Wind-Solar-Storage Demonstration Project in China. CATL’s batteries are the only ones that have never been replaced, retaining over 90% of residual capacity after 14 years.

CATL was also the first to deploy an LFP battery with more than 12,000 cycles in Jinjiang in 2020. The system it’s used in is expected to last over 20 years at 1.5 to 2 cycles per day.

Yeah i fucking despise battery tech news. I already know that CATLs new stuff is great and super cheap but can i get some actual information please. Or can i just buy the cells please instead of endless announcements about some new product i dont want. I want to have 20kWh of sodium ion solar storage in my living room for 1000€ please, not cars or anything else.

My issue is this. I have an EV with about 77kWh of battery, a giant powerpack on wheels no less. So I’d rather not spend a bunch more on a battery for my home, but bidirectional charging/ V2L is limited to 1800W. sigh.

In your car it might be, but it isnt that limited in others aren’t. Eg the BYD Shark is 2.6kW from memory.

Also V2L isn’t about running your home, thays V2H, Vehicle to Home

V2G is another but it’s about pumping excess cheap power, or your own solar power into your car battery through the day and then being paid to drain some back into the grid at peak times

Many ecars support V2L, fewer support V2H or V2G, you also need the required hardware and installation to enable that at your home, neither V2G or V2H are cheap and it has to be legal in your area, for example, it was only made legal in Australia in March last year from memory (outside a couple test areas)

V2L is about running an electrical appliance eg an induction cookplate at the park to cook burgers for a picnic etc. Or power your refrigeration, a couple LED lights and phone charger via an extension cord if your house looses power for a day or two.
