A big reason why I watched Star Trek re-runs after school was because of the eye candy.

A big reason why I’m progressive today is because I watched Star Trek re-runs after school.

The flaring on the skirt really flatters his waist, but it also slims the legs, which is the only thing that I think is not quite right about this outfit yet.

The slimming of the legs is compounded by the loose boots, which makes me think it’s a conscious design decision to clash late c20 masc and fem codings.

We know Starfleet is generally obsessed with the late c20 so I guess that’s plausible in universe.

For my personal taste, I think they had the right idea with the close-fitting shorts, but maybe extend them longer or have more contrast. I’d also prefer him in something more like a martial arts slipper.

Honestly I like thicker legs on guys than the average (like, I watch sumo wrestling). My personal fashion advice to him would be on how to butch up his lower legs, which I think is exactly what he was not trying to do.

He’s showing off the fact that he doesn’t walk anywhere, the heels are for stirrups and the walking calf looks different.

That’s like in the martial art movies where the old guy says “look at his forearm, I thought Octopus Strike Technique had been lost forever”.

There are things written in your body that you can’t fake, and I guess in c17 Europe one of those was whether you had ever walked a mile.

I remember this episode, this scene even, for how it failed step 3 of the Bechdel test so badly. Never seen a more classic example.

    1. The movie has to have at least two women in it,
    2. who talk to each other,
    3. about something other than a man.

The fact that they’re talking about a man, and also the circumstances of the scene. Like, what even are these exercises? Were they invented by some sleazy director? Or did a sleazy director just pick them out from a list? And then pick out the outfits?

This is the work of infamous Executive Producer Rick Berman. His “touch” is dotted throughout the TNG-ENT era. Not exactly a proud moment, but fits for the sake of this meme format.
