Hopefully my image selection doesn’t show by bias. But seriously, I don’t think either is “better” - they approached it two different ways.
Data got the emotion chip, but had to learn how to use them. We saw that all on-screen.
Android got the emotion chip upgrade (which also seemed to come with the requisite control software) and was able to hit the ground running.
Just goes to show how the pirated version is always better
Justice for Dark Matter, Android was precious!
They really were quite different.
Data never had emotions. He tried to understand and fake them as he could, but without feeling it, could never get there.
Android on the other hand had emotions, just not the human like mannerisms to fully express them.
So when they got their modifications, their reactions were quite different. Data finally experienced the emotions he was always chasing for. While Android was finally able to fully express what she always felt.
They’re both interesting stories. I guess I enjoyed Android’s more. Data became kind of annoying until he got the hang of things.
That’s a good way to differentiate their capacities for emotion: Android could experience but not express, while Data could express but not experience. Their respective chips allowed them to do both.
Seconded, exactly this.
I love Geordi’s horror at realizing Data now gets every joke he’s ever heard and may feel the need to retell them.
I haven’t seen Dark Matter so I have no opinion on this question, other than the answer is always Star Trek.
Dark Matter was an okay show. It had potential and reminded me more of Firefly with shades of Farscape and Andromeda.
Overall it wasn’t that great. Each season was worse than the previous. Only lasted 3 seasons.
If you look it up, this is Dark Matter 2015, not Dark Matter 2024 which is a completely different show by the looks of it.
The first season of Dark Matter is awesome… but hey didn’t get the ratings that the studio required and halfway through season 2 you can see the quality drop as they try to make it work and season 3 is forgettable, sadly. I really enjoyed the first viewings
Yeah. It wasn’t bad and the cast was mostly good. However it just lacked something. I kept watching it hoping I would get invested but I never did.

Dark Matter (2015) is based on a short-run comic series. Dark Matter (2024) is an adaptation of an entirely unrelated novel that just happens to have the same title.
I don’t know, but I do have to applaud how they did Data. First few scenes were enjoyable, and when it got annoying I felt it was purposeful.
