I seem to be in a good place right now in regards to the general health of my larynx. A good time to start on my voice.

I can actually sound feminine with relative ease, but there’s a catch: only with a strong regional British accent. Can I sound like a woman from Belfast? Yes! Glasgow? Absolutely! Birmingham? Yeah. Am I from any of those places? Nope!

I can also sound feminine while I’m singing, but I’m not going to go around acting like I’m in a Gilbert and Sullivan play, so I need to work on sounding like a feminine me. So I need a famous woman or character who has close to a relatively neutral RP English (leaning slightly towards Scottish but not much) and a large amount of spoken recordings like interviews and acting roles.

Any suggestions?

NB: my accent is in no way posh or plummy. Kind of lower middle class.

Honestly, my accent (despite being in Cascadia since I was eleven) has a touch of general English-from-elsewhere sound.

I figure if I leave the country on vacation or permanently, it might come in handy?

Yeah, my normal speaking voice doesn’t sound like where I’m from in the slightest. I mean not even close. But I don’t want to adopt the accent from where I’m from, because I live in another country and noone would understand a word. I have a trans acquaintance who did adopt that accent and it was even weirder than finding out she’d transitioned. She sounds a bit like she’s someone’s gran who just got done making a large batch of treacle scones and is asking if you want her to fix you a plate of mince and tatties.

Nope, I plan to listen to my own voice along side a reference voice and making the necessary alterations. My partner is going to be more comfortable with my original voice, but I’ll eventually want to have a female voice I can use with the general public.

How is the accent situation in Russia? In Britain it’s comical, in Scandinavia it’s worse. Norwegian as its spoken in the south west would be completely incomprehensible to someone from the north if people didn’t just learn the differences and the Danes have to subtitle their own language.
